Bolts Sweep Caps!?

The Lightning, playing in the postseason for the first time in four years, beat the Caps 5-3 to record their seventh consecutive win, fourth in a row against the Washington powerhouse, and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.

It was yet another post-season disaster for Washington, who have won four consecutive Southeast Division titles but failed to advance beyond the second round of the playoffs since 1998.

"We wanted to win, they wanted to win, and eventually someone had to lose," Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin told reporters. "I don't know what to say right now."

I'm sure the GM doesn't know what to say either about the Washington Head coach, Bruce Boudreau. Enraged Caps fans believe that its finally time for a new Head coach to step in and grasp the reins. But wouldn't it be fair to say that since the Capitals have another year left of contract with most of their expensive players, that Boudreau should be given one more chance with a team that he knows so well and has gained respect though?

Mike Green, Alexander Semin, Denis Wideman and Mike Knuble will be in the last year of their contracts in 2011-12. That’s about $17.88 million that could be redirected into the bank accounts of shutdown defensemen and two-way forwards if Boudreau’s free-wheeling system fails one last time.

I for one think that the GM will give Boudreau one more chance, or at least let him start the next season to see how he does. They cannot afford to mess up another playoff run next time around.

But one thing is for sure, the Bolts have proven themselves yet again as a team that can shut down a giant. Next they move on to play the Boston Bruins for the Eastern Conference Finals. I wish them the best of luck as the only SouthEast Division team left in the playoffs.

  1. I have no interest in any of this after the Hurricanes lost to a team that was already guaranteed a spot.

  2. You know, I have to admit that I forgot all about hockey after the strike where they didn't play for an age and a half.

Good to know the puck is still being flung around professionally :D

  4. The caps have everything needed to win in the regular season, and nothing that's needed for the post-season. Sad but true.

    My bet's still on Boston.

  5. I don't think too many people predicted a sweep. Should be a tough series against Boston. I still say Vancouver takes it.

  6. Not a big fan of the bolts so was hoping the Capitals would win. Much more exciting when they go to game 7 too.

  7. Tim Thomas vs Dwayne Roloston next round. That's almost 80 years between them!

    Also, Mike Green is cancer
